Arkish Aftab


Arkish Aftab is a Mumbai-based writer, director and editor, and an alumnus of AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia.
He made his directorial debut with the award-winning short film, Rat in the Kitchen (2023), which premiered at the Jio Cinema Film Festival on JioHotstar. The film won Best Debut Director (Independent Shorts Awards, LA) and Best Indian Live Action Short (Yellowstone IFF), with official selections at Oscar and Canadian Screen Award-qualifying festivals. Lead Actor Mantra Mugdh won Best Actor at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival.
Aftab's second directorial, a cyberpunk neo-noir music film, Khauf, won Best Music Video at Rome Prisma Film Awards and Short to the Point (Romania).
Before branching out into independent direction, Aftab worked as a Writer, Assistant Director and Editor at Studio Eeksaurus.
His work explores narratives which often blend psychological unease with emotional intimacy.
Aftab is currently developing his debut feature.
